Solar Kit FAQ

Q: How long does it take to install a typical solar power system?

A: Just like anything else, the first few will take you longer than normal. The largest of our kits can be installed in 3-4 days by a 3-4 man crew who know what they are doing. Setting feet and installing rail can take a day. On Day 2 you should be laying modules and running conduit from the roof to the service panel. On Day 3 you are off the roof and in the shade hanging the inverter and wiring the disconnects and tying into the service. Factors which affect installation time include distance to jobsite, multiple arrays on multiple pitches, multi-story homes, and custom requests.

Another strategy is to put a 2-3 man team on the roof and 1-2 men on the "AC side" working in parallel.

Q: How long will it take me to install my own system?

A: Because HelioPower's packaged solar power systems come complete and are provided with wiring diagrams the installation time is largely up to you and your capabilities. Taking on your own installation with any other kit besides ours would seem daunting. Assuming you have a day job and the week days are pretty full, an attainable installation schedule might be broken down over two weekends. The Goal for Weekend #1 ; perform layout, set feet, & attach racking. Goals for Weekend #2: install modules, perform array wiring, & run conduit from the roof to the service panels. Then your roof work is done and the remaining "AC side" of the job can be broken down into a couple of weekday evenings. TIP: Enlist competent friends!
