Q: How long does it take to install a typical solar power system?
A: Just like anything else, the first few will take you longer than normal. The largest of our kits can be installed in 3-4 days by a 3-4 man crew who know what they are doing. Setting feet and installing rail can take a day. On Day 2 you should be laying modules and running conduit from the roof to the service panel. On Day 3 you are off the roof and in the shade hanging the inverter and wiring the disconnects and tying into the service. Factors which affect installation time include distance to jobsite, multiple arrays on multiple pitches, multi-story homes, and custom requests.
Another strategy is to put a 2-3 man team on the roof and 1-2 men on the "AC side" working in parallel.
Q: How much can I charge for installation?
A: There are many variables involved in answering this question. The factors that involve installation time listed above directly affect how much you charge. Common industry "adders" are; run conduit through attic, eave punch, multiple arrays. The short answer is "You can make a few to several thousand dollars per installation.
